Cooinda is situated in the eastern part of Kakadu National Park, about 40 min from the township of Jabiru. Positioned near the Yellow Water Billabong, it serves as an accessible starting point for exploring Kakadu’s diverse ecosystems, Aboriginal rock art sites, and stunning landscapes.

GETTING TO THE LODGE

  • Flying

There is an airstrip at Cooinda which can take light aircraft and helicopters.  Numerous companies fly from Darwin with Kakadu Air being the main operator servicing these flights as well as within other locations in the park as well as Arnhem Land.

Flight time from Darwin to Cooinda is approximately an hour.  Bear in mind that the planes typically do not have air conditioning and can get warm inside the plane.  Take a cold drink.

  • Tours
    • Numerous tour companies offer experiences from Darwin which include a stop and sometimes overnight stays at Cooinda. These range from large groups (AAT Kings) right down to Micro Groups and private charters (ethical adventures).  During the Tropical Summer months because of low tourism numbers there is a big decline in the number of these operators and also a tendency for some to cancel at the last moment.  Make sure you pick someone who is not going leave you stranded 3 days out from departure.
