Darwin Wildlife Tour

best tour we have done

… It was fabulous from go to whoa.  Rob was a brilliant guide with his knowledge and enthusiasm being very contagious.  Nothing was too much trouble and he created a very close knit group with our fellow travelers … to not do a tour with ethical adventures would be a mistake as it really doesn’t get any better than this …

Wildlife and environments of the Top End

Suggested Itinerary

Your NT wildlife tour begins with an early start to catch the magnificent outback sunrise on the floodplains of the mighty Adelaide River.

Wetlands, Monsoon Forests

Nearby is Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve, a mecca for NT wildlifeFogg Dam is also the perfect place to snack on scrumptious homemade hot ham and cheese croissants and enjoy a hot brew or juice.  Breakfast with the birds, NT style !

Afterwards enjoy a relaxed stroll through the monsoonal forest which fringes the dam.  Here is a great opportunity to begin to learn about native bush foods, medicines and natural resources.

Take the time also to peer through the paperbark trees onto the wetland beyond as the water birds go about their business.

Relax and admire the antics of the abundant wildlife that frolic, scamper and glide all around.

The area boasts over 230 species of birds, as well as one of the largest snake populations in Australia to keep them company.

Billabong, Wildlife Cruise

Leaving Fogg Dam and a short journey later find yourself at Corroboree Billabong for an immersive wildlife cruise.  Corroboree is linked to the expansive Mary River.  As such there is plenty to see on your 90 minute adventures.

Not only will you get up close to crocodiles in their natural state but you will also learn of the broader wetland ecosystem.  The ebb and floe lifecycle of the environments of the Top End that is dominated by monsoonal floods and drought like winters.

At the completion of the cruise savour your fresh homemade lunch by the billabong before a journey to the coast and our mangrove introduction.

Mangrove Boardwalk

Mangroves are the protectors of the coast and nursery to local favorites such as mud crabs, prawns and Barramundi.  Fortunately the NT is blessed with healthy, vibrant examples of this type of ecosystem.  The NT has around 90% of all species of mangroves in the world represented along its coastline ! During our short walk through the mangrove system (on an elevated boardwalk) there is plenty of opportunities to look closely at the intricate web of life found here before calling it a day.

Wonderful, ethical trip

A wonderful surprise, found at very short notice. Ethical Adventures ticked all the boxes for me. Small groups, informative & nothing was too much trouble! Rob is a delightful tour guide, who cares about the environment. He was very knowledgeable in describing birds, various areas, and environmental issues. Highly recommended!

Hi Eva, Thanks for your review. It was a pleasure to share the morning sunrise and the NT wildlife and environments with you. I look forward to your return to the Top End. All the best, Rob
