  Day 1
Darwin to Kakadu National Park

Enjoy a sleep in as we arrive around 10 am to pick you up for your journey to Kakadu. Travel via the Arnhem highway east to the Bark Hut where we stop for a bite for lunch (at own expense).

From there it is on to the township of Jabiru on the western edge of Kakadu National Park.

Here we can take some time to visit the culture centre, gallery and do a little town tour of this controversial little hamlet before moving on to Cooinda where you can get settled into your accommodation.

Mid to afternoon sees us at Nourlangie Rock wandering through the many galleries of aboriginal rock art that adorns its many surfaces.  Paintings that go back thousands of years, recording the efforts and endeavors of the people of the region and the environment they inhabited.

As the sun continues its decline we move towards Anbangbang Billabong for late afternoon tea before walking up to Nawurlanja Lookout to pay tribute to a magnificent Arnhem escarpment sunset.

Returning to your accommodation you are free to enjoy dinner at the inhouse restaurant (not included in tour).

Day 2

Kakadu National Park tour

Up with the sun it is time to join the world-renowned sunrise Yellow Waters cruise.  This is the perfect cruise to witness the wakening of wildlife on the wetlands backed up by expert local commentary.

Enjoy the full buffet breakfast at Cooinda resort after the cruise before we begin the journey back to Darwin Via Pine Creek and Adelaide River.

These historic hamlets on the Stuart Highway are iconic outback townships which have played many roles in the shaping of the Top End and the cultures found here.

Great places to pause for a ponder on European incursions into the Top End and the inevitable ‘progress’ that accompanies such movements.

Getting back to Darwin around 4pm.

NOTE

  • *scenic flight can be undertaken on day 2 after breakfast by prior arrangement with Kakadu Air.
  • the itinerary is subject to environmental and cultural considerations which may affect it on the day. We reserve the right to make changes and omisisons without notice.
